Income Tax Cocktail Recipe
Income tax in the United States began when Congress signed the Revenue Act of 1861, to fund the Civil War effort. It was a 3% tax on income over $800. Congress subsequently instituted the Revenue Act of 1862, which imposed a 3% tax on income over $600 and a 5% tax rate for income above $10,000.
Ingredients:
- 1 ounce gin
- 1/2 ounce sweet vermouth
- 1/2 ounce dry vermouth
- 1 ounce orange juice
- Dash Angostura bitters
- Orange spiral, to garnish
Directions:
- Shake the gin, sweet vermouth, dry vermouth, orange juice and Angostura bitter in a cocktail shaker with ice.
- Strain the contents of the shaker into a chilled cocktail glass.
- Garnish with the orange spiral, and serve.
