Mexican Madras

Mexico City is sinking at a rate of approximately 3 inches per year. The reason is that 70% of the city's drinking water comes from an aquifer under the city, which is being pumped out at a rate higher than it can be replaced.
In the last century, parts of the city have sunk over 40 feet.
