Income Tax Cocktail Recipe

Income tax in the United States began when Congress signed the Revenue Act of 1861, to fund the Civil War effort. It was a 3% tax on income over $800. Congress subsequently instituted the Revenue Act of 1862, which imposed a 3% tax on income over $600 and a 5% tax rate for income above $10,000.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ounce gin
  • 1/2 ounce sweet vermouth
  • 1/2 ounce dry vermouth
  • 1 ounce orange juice
  • Dash Angostura bitters
  • Orange spiral, to garnish

Directions:

  1. Shake the gin, sweet vermouth, dry vermouth, orange juice and Angostura bitter in a cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Strain the contents of the shaker into a chilled cocktail glass.
  3. Garnish with the orange spiral, and serve.
