El Presidente

In 1758, the future first president of the United States, George Washington, served complimentary rum to prospective voters while campaigning for the Virginia House of Burgess. The Virginia House of Burgess was the first legislative assembly of elected representatives in North America. Washington served in the House for 15 years prior to the American Revolution.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 ounces light rum
  • 1 ounce dry vermouth
  • 1 ounce triple sec
  • Dash grenadine
  • Orange spiral, to garnish

Directions:

  1. Combine the light rum, dry vermouth, triple sec and grenadine in a mixing glass with ice.
  2. Strain the contents of the mixing glass into a chilled cocktail glass.
  3. Garnish with the orange spiral, and serve.
