10 Drinks for Spring

As winter turns to spring, the earth tilts on its axis toward the sun, increasing temperatures and the amount of daylight. As the sun tilts, try tilting back a few of our 10 Drinks for Spring!

1. Singapore Sling

The lowest temperature ever recorded in Singapore was 67°F in January 1934. This classic drink is a blend of gin, cherry liqueur, Cointreau, Drambuie, grenadine, pineapple juice, lime juice and Agostura bitters.

2. Atlantic Breeze

Atlantic Records was founded in 1947 by Ahmet Ertegun and Herb Abramson and was home to acts including Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones. The Atlantic Breeze is a mix of light rum, apricot brandy, lemon juice, pineapple juice and Galliano.

3. Paloma

Paloma is the Spanish word for a dove or pigeon. The dove is viewed as a symbol of peace across many cultures. The Paloma is a tequila-based drink with grapefruit juice, lime juice, simple syrup and club soda.

4. Sambuca L’Arancia

The Battle of the Oranges is an annual food fight that takes place in Ivrea, Italy, just north of Turin. Approximately 4,000 participants are divided into nine teams and the battle lasts three days. The Sambuca L’Arancia is a combination of triple sec, Sambuca and orange juice.

5. Mexican Madras

Mexico City is sinking at a rate of approximately 3 inches per year. The reason is that 70% of the city’s drinking water comes from an aquifer under the city, which is being pumped out at a rate higher than it can be replaced. In the last century, parts of the city have sunk over 40 feet. The Mexican Madras is a blend of tequila, cranberry juice, orange juice and lime juice.

6. Rum Swizzle

The first rum distillery in North America was set up on what is now Staten Island, in 1664, more than 100 years prior to the Revolutionary War. The Rum Swizzle is a mix of Dark rum, triple sec, lemon juice and ginger beer.

7. Cuban Sidecar

Carlos Manuel de Céspedes del Castillo was a prominent Cuban attorney and plantation owner. In 1868, he freed his slaves and made the declaration of Cuban independence from Spain, thus beginning the Ten Years’ War. The Cuban Sidecar is a blend of light rum, Cointreau and lime juice.

Amaretto is a sweet, typically almond-flavored, Italian liqueur. This Amaretto Sour recipe is a mix of amaretto, simple syrup and lemon juice.

9. Long Island Iced Tea

Long Island, NY has a population of nearly 8 million people. It is the most populated island in the United States and has a population density of approximately 5,600 persons per square mile. This classic Long Island Iced Tea recipe is a combination of vodka, tequila light rum, gin, triple sec, lemon juice and cola.
